1. Materials You Will Need

• Fabric: Cotton or linen fabric (light-colored for better visibility of stitches)
• Embroidery Hoop: 6–8 inch wooden or plastic hoop
• Needles:
  • Embroidery needle size 7–9 (sharp tip, large eye)
• Threads:
  • Stranded cotton embroidery floss (e.g., DMC, Anchor)
  • Colors:
    • Yellow – flower petals
    • Orange/Red – flower center
    • Green – leaves and stems
    • Brown – stem outline and spiral curves
• Scissors: Small, sharp embroidery scissors
• Water-soluble pen or chalk: For pattern transfer

2. Stitches Used in This Design

a) Flower Petals – Satin Stitch

• Fill each petal smoothly with satin stitch, ensuring threads lie flat and close together.
• Start from the base of the pedal and work towards the edge.

b) Flower Center – Lattice Stitch

• First, make crisscross straight stitches to form a grid.
• Then, couch (secure) each intersection with a tiny straight stitch using a contrasting color.

c) Leaf Body – Long and Short Stitch

• Use dark green for the base and lighter green for blending towards the tip.
• Alternate long and short stitches to create a natural texture.

d) Leaf Veins – Stem Stitch

• Use a darker green or brown to outline the central vein.

e) Stem & Swirls – Stem Stitch

• Work along the drawn lines, keeping stitches slanted and consistent in size.

f) Small Leaf Branches – Detached Chain Stitch (Lazy Daisy)

• Make small looped stitches for tiny leaflets along the branch.

3. Step-by-Step Process

1. Transfer the Pattern:
   • Trace the design onto your fabric using a water-soluble pen or tracing paper.
2. Set the Hoop:
   • Place fabric in the hoop, tighten, and ensure it’s taut but not stretched.
3. Start with the Flower Centers:
   • Make the lattice stitch using orange/red thread.
4. Fill the Petals:
   • Use yellow satin stitch for petals, working one petal at a time.
5. Work on the Leaves:
   • Fill with long and short green stitches, and add the stem stitch for veins.
6. Outline the Stems and Swirls:
   • Use brown stem stitch to follow the curves.
7. Add the Small Leaf Branches:
   • Make detached chain stitches for leaflets.
8. Finishing:
   • Remove the hoop, gently rinse to remove tracing lines, let it dry flat, and lightly press from the back with a cloth on top.
