Petals of the Flowers – Satin Stitch / Long and Short Stitch

  • Usage: To fill in the petals of each flower with a solid colour.
  • How to do:
    • First, outline the shape of the petal.
    • Then, fill in the inside with straight, long stitches (Satin stitch).
    • If you want to add shading, you can use the Long and Short Stitch technique.

🌼 Flower Centre – French Knot / Woven Wheel Stitch

  • French Knot:
    • Wrap the thread around the needle and insert it into the fabric at a specific point, forming a knot.
    • This adds texture and creates a small, knot-like appearance at the centre of the flower.
  • Woven Wheel Stitch:
    • Create a small circular design by stitching straight lines and weaving thread around the centre, creating a textured centre for the flower.

🍃 Leaves – Fishbone Stitch / Leaf Stitch

  • Fishbone Stitch:
    • First, stitch a straight line down the centre of the leaf (the midrib).
    • Then, stitch diagonally from each side of the midrib, creating the appearance of veins and texture on the leaf.
  • Leaf Stitch:
    • This is a simpler stitch for creating small leaves.

🌿 Stem or Branch – Stem Stitch / Back Stitch

  • Stem Stitch:
    • Use this stitch for creating stems or branches.
    • Each stitch overlaps slightly with the previous one, creating a smooth, curved line.
  • Back Stitch:
    • This stitch is used for creating straight lines and is quick to learn.

🌱 Small Buds or Seeds – French Knot / Bullion Knot

  • French Knot, as explained earlier.
  • Bullion Knot:
    • This is a bit more advanced, but it can be used for creating buds or decorative parts of the design.

🔁 Curved or Spiral Elements – Chain Stitch / Spiral Stitch

  • Chain Stitch:
    • Ideal for curved or spiral shapes, especially for delicate details.
  • Spiral Stitch:
    • It can be used for decorative work and curved elements, giving a textured spiral effect.

✅ Tips for Beginners:

  1. Practice each stitch separately on a scrap piece of fabric before working on your main project.
  2. Use an embroidery hoop to keep your fabric taut, which makes stitching easier.
  3. Start with thinner threads and use smaller needles.
  4. Dedicate a little time each day to practice and improve your technique.
