Stitch Types Used:

  1. Satin Stitch

    • Tip: Always keep the stitches neat and close to each other.
  2. French Knot
    • Use in the centre of each sunflower to create a textured, 3D effect.
    • Wrap the thread twice around the needle before inserting it slightly next to the starting point.
  3. Stem Stitch
    • Ideal for creating the curved paisley outline and veins of the leaves.
    • It forms a continuous, slightly twisted line.
  4. Chain Stitch(Optional)
    • It can be used to outline the swirl elements or to add more texture around the petals or border.
    • It creates a decorative, looped line.

Thread Colours (Embroidery Floss):

Use 6-stranded embroidery floss (commonly available brands: Anchor, DMC).

  • Sunflower Petals:
    Golden Yellow / Deep Yellow (e.g., DMC 742 or Anchor 298)
  • Sunflower Centre:
    Dark Brown (e.g., DMC 801 or Anchor 382)
  • Leaves:
    Leaf Green or Emerald Green (e.g., DMC 699 or Anchor 216)
  • Paisley Swirls / Decorative Motifs:
    You can use contrasting colours like:
    • Teal Blue or Turquoise (DMC 3846 or Anchor 168)
    • Magenta / Hot Pink (DMC 915 or Anchor 47)
    • Violet / Purple (DMC 208 or Anchor 109)

Needle Recommendations:

  • Use a crewel embroidery needle (size 7–9).
    These needles have a large enough eye for embroidery floss and a sharp point suitable for woven fabrics.

Fabric Suggestions:

  • White cotton fabric or white linen is ideal.
